YUTA
GENERAL
- Asia Branch Supervisory Special Agent & Sniper Squad Leader
- His squad consists of rookies that he handpicked from the best academy graduates.
- Trains his squad to be versatile so they can be deployed to assist any sort of mission: hostage situations, counter-terrorism units, close quarter combat, and tactical operations.
- Has a military background. Only Taeyong and IT know the details and Yuta doesn't talk about it.
SKILLS
- Can wield any weapon that is meant to shoot. Used to practice archery.
- At one point, held the record of the longest recorded sniper kill (by distance).
- Good at hand-to-hand combat, and can hold his own in a few rounds of sparring with Ten and Doyoung.
- Trains the rookies in camouflage, target acquisition, surveillance and reconnaissance.
- With Chenle's technology, the snipers have heightened accuracy, but Yuta insists they use classic sniping rifles with a normal scope for training purposes.
Compatible teams:
- Sniper Squad | Jaemin - Jeno - Chenle - Jisung - Yuta
- Ten - Taeyong - Johnny - Yuta
- Johnny - Jaehyun - Yuta
- Winwin - Ten - Yuta
- Mark - Johnny - Yuta
APPEARANCE
- Height: 176cm
- Dark blonde hair, brown eyes.
- For missions, he usually wears a turtleneck under a bulletproof vest under a dark grey skiing coat. His helmet, goggles, and the bag for his rifle were made by Chenle.
- At HQ, he wears simple and comfortable clothes.
PERSONALITY & RELATIONSHIPS:
- Always seems to be in a good mood.
- Loves his rookies and is an easy-going mentor. Lets Chenle use his newly developed equipment in their squad missions.
- Went to academy with Taeyong, where the two became friends. Yuta helps Taeyong out when his paperwork piles up and listens to his venting.
- Also tries to ensure Taeyong doesn’t fuss over Doyoung too much. Yuta can relate to Doyoung in some ways - his unconventional ways of looking at things, his distaste for stiff protocols. Those parts of him were stamped out by his military background and working in the agency, which is why Yuta finds Doyoung refreshing. He and Doyoung are sparring partners.
- He is playful and flirty with his colleagues, especially with Winwin because he “doesn't know if he’ll get another opportunity to express his feelings.”
- Got his ass kicked by Winwin the first day the Chinese agent arrived at HQ because Yuta openly flirted with him. He often lets himself into Winwin's office to talk about everything and nothing, earning a disgruntled look from Taeil in the neighboring office.
- Cares deeply for his squad, especially because they are young. He talks to them after missions to make sure they are okay.
JOHNNY
GENERAL:
- North America Branch / Asia Branch Supervisory Special Agent
- Was promoted to North America Branch Unit Chief.
- Worked in an intelligence agency in North America prior to his transfer to the organised crime unit. He specialised in counterintelligence missions, rapidly climbing the ranks as a result of his high success rate. However, due to differing opinions, Johnny came to be viewed as a potential threat to his superiors and was demoted upon failing a mission, after which he was sent to work in organised crime, which was understaffed at the time.
- At the Asia Branch, he still works in intelligence collection, but also mentors the rookies and helps Taeyong in handling any political events. Johnny is also the examiner for psychological evaluation tests and handles interrogations.
SKILLS:
- An all-rounder with extraordinary stamina and strength. Ten once commented on how his speed and his height don’t match (“Giants aren’t supposed to be that fast. Well, you’re not as fast as me, but still”).
- Better at close range shots than marksmanship.
- Has a lot of resilience and patience that are useful in undercover missions and precarious situations.
- Is excellent at reading and conversing with people, which makes it easy for him to collect information simply by talking to targets.
- Taeyong often asks Johnny to accompany him or represent him at banquets to meet with superiors and politicians, and win the favor of potential investors.
- Mostly does duo missions with Jaehyun, but also often does solo missions.
Compatible teams:
- Jaehyun - Johnny
- Ten - Taeyong - Yuta - Johnny
- Mark - Jaehyun - Johnny
- Can join any team
APPEARANCE:
- Height: 185cm
- Black hair, light brown eyes.
- Wears glasses made by the Qs that not only correct his vision, but also transmit directions from Taeil during missions.
- Usually wears a dress shirt with a tie, over a bulletproof vest on missions. Drapes his coat or suit jacket over his shoulders.
PERSONALITY:
- Very sociable and friendly. The rookies think he is the nicest and most approachable instructor among the four.
- Chatty with his friends and coworkers, but also one of the most observant people in the agency. He assesses situations and people quickly, and almost always knows what to say to manipulate the mood in his favor.
RELATIONSHIPS:
- In his past, he has worked with Taeyong on undercover missions. Since Johnny is a Supervisory Special Agent, he can help out and take on part of Taeyong’s workload when he’s free.
- Also prefers to team up with Ten, because they specialise in the same field and clicked very well.
- Waited at Mark’s graduation ceremony to pick him up right after it finished and convince Mark to join their unit; Mark went on missions with Johnny when he was still an academy student. Johnny thinks he is a brilliant agent and promises to train him in everything that he knows. Despite being his instructor, he treats Mark like a younger brother.
- He often trains with Haechan as well, who admires him a lot and always wants to spar or ask him about his past missions (despite blatantly knowing some are highly confidential). He finds it amusing that despite his admiration, Haechan’s primary goal is to win against him in sparring.
- After his reassignment to the organised crime unit, one of his orders was to watch over and assess his new partner, Jaehyun. The loss of his previous partner obviously affected Jaehyun and his performance, but because he was a valuable asset to the unit and they couldn’t afford to lose more people at that time, they decided to keep him and partner him up with Johnny.
- He thinks very highly of Jaehyun, valuing him as a talented and skilled agent. He strongly empathizes with Jaehyun’s situation. Over time, he learns to read the signs when the guilt starts crashing down on Jaehyun and distracts him from the worst of his self-flagellation.
- Because he understands Jaehyun and all his complications with survivor’s guilt and his general tendencies to shut people out from his feelings, Johnny knows how to get Jaehyun out of his head when it fills with dark thoughts while still giving Jaehyun enough space. He knows that Jaehyun would never directly open up about the past.
- Eventually, Johnny realizes that looking after Jaehyun comes naturally and doesn’t feel like an assignment anymore, and that he is beginning to develop feelings for Jaehyun.
TAEYONG
GENERAL:
- Head of Asia Branch & Mission Coordinator
- Youngest leader of the agency to date.
- Oversees all missions. Responsible for selecting teams and strategizing tactics.
- Also manages external relationships. Tries to fend off any political affiliations or biases while maintaining the support of those in power.
- Stays back at HQ most of the time as a result of his role.
- Tasked with supervising Doyoung, who is under 24/7 lockdown.
SKILLS:
- His marksmanship is highly praised by Yuta. Prefers handheld guns over rifles.
- His hand-to-hand combat skills can fend off Ten for hours.
- Good strategist, though Doyoung thinks that he “goes by the books” too often. His tactics are best suited for short and emergency missions, as they are prone to being seen through during longer missions.
- Worked mostly on espionage and undercover missions before becoming Head of Asia Branch and Mission Coordinator.
- His most impressive and famous assignment was Project Hitchhiker, when he brought down an underground organisation that dealt with weapon and human trafficking, exposing the corrupt politicians who were benefiting from it.
- Worked up to his position by himself. Doesn't have any family ties to politics, which was another factor in why he was chosen to lead the agency.
Compatible teams:
- Johnny - Ten - Yuta - Taeyong
- Doyoung - Yuta - Haechan - Taeyong
- Can join any team
APPEARANCE:
- Height: 175cm
- Red hair, black eyes.
- Has a scar under his right eye and one on his left brow
- Usually dresses in formal wear because of the meetings he has to attend and the position he holds. When he does dress down, it's always shocking to everyone.
PERSONALITY & RELATIONSHIPS:
- A workaholic. Very strict about keeping to regulations and protocol. Gives off a strong aura of seniority and confidence.
- Works closely with Mark. Is training him to become a mission coordinator.
- Yuta, Johnny and Taeyong (with Taeil as support) were known as a legendary team, and are still considered highly by rookies and seasoned agents alike.
- Those who are closer to Taeyong know that he has a soft core deep down. Is very protective of his agents, which often forces him to choose between following the rules or prioritizing the well-being of his comrades.
- Few know about the amount of self-blame behind Taeyong's closed office door when a mission fails. Yuta often drops by and they have a few drinks. Taeil quietly keeps Taeyong company, sorts out his paperwork, and brings him comfort food.
- When Doyoung was captured and chose surveillance over jail, Taeyong was upset and frustrated because he was the one tasked to watch over Doyoung's every move, which meant that they had to be together 24/7.
- He swears in front of everyone that he’ll send Doyoung to prison if Doyoung even thinks about going behind anyone's back.
- Doyoung, infuriated by his situation and the betrayal of his former comrades, walks up to Taeyong and hisses into his face, "Listen up. I might have questionable morals, but in my whole career as a so-called criminal, I’ve never been a backstabber. I know you think you're a saint and that I'm just scum, but in the end, we do the same business with different, more or less noble reasons. Do not insinuate things like this again - you should be professional enough not to jump to conclusions without solid proof, right?"
- Over time, he comes to appreciate Doyoung's efforts in teaching the rookies. During a mission when Taeyong is trapped and Doyoung has a chance to escape, he saves Taeyong at the risk of his own life, which is one of the turning points in their relationship.
TEN
GENERAL:
- Asia Branch Supervisory Special Agent & X Recon Squad Leader
- Instructor for close combat.
- All-rounder, but often gets assigned to bomb squad missions as support.
- Goes on many undercover missions, specialises in organised crime. Holds the record for the highest count of successful solo missions.
- Was a high ranking agent in his local forces before he joined the agency by recommendation.
SKILLS:
- Highly skilled in martial arts. Though there’s a rumor among the rookies that he knows every technique known to man, he doesn’t know everything yet (but it’s on his to-do list).
- Can use all Asian martial arts techniques, but likes to combine them with krav maga, an Israeli close combat style that is known to be brutal and adaptive.
- Johnny once referred the 2m radius around Ten as the Death Zone, as this is the range where Ten will win without a doubt. (Anything outside the circle still doesn't guarantee the opponent's victory.)
- Covered in hidden weapons from head to toe. There are blades in his shoe soles, knives and tiny handguns strapped to his ankles and thighs, small electric shock stun disks in his pockets, tranquillisers in his batons, and smoke bombs and thin steel wires tucked out of sight. His rings have thorns that can be popped out.
- Has good stamina for his size, but is realistic about his limitations. He knows he can’t hold out as long as bigger opponents can, so he's refined his style to be fast and lethal.
- Close combat skills aside, Ten is extremely intelligent and is a terrific tactician, which is why he is the perfect instructor for Haechan.
- His physical and tactical agility allows him to do a lot of solo work, and he is a valuable asset for espionage and reconnaissance. He has high EQ and a good judgment of human nature
Compatible teams:
- Kun - Winwin - Ten
- Taeyong - Johnny - Yuta - Ten
- Jaehyun - Johnny - Ten
- Yangyang - Kun - Ten
APPEARANCE:
- Height: 169cm
- Black hair with undercut, brown eyes.
- Dresses stylishly, partially to blend in with people from the underground.
- Looks slender but is built from his vigorous training.
PERSONALITY:
- Sharp tongued and direct. Has a hot temper and is working on his patience.
- Very playful; a moodmaker. Has a magnetic and charming personality that he uses to his advantage on undercover missions.
- Highly intelligent. His mind works at an incredible speed.
- Taeyong once said that he feels lucky that Ten isn't a criminal because he would be one hell of an enemy.
- Doesn't beat around the bush, be it work related things or his personal feelings. Ten immediately asked Kun out the moment he realized he was interested in Kun. He's very aware of his feelings, and it's something he is confident about.
- Because he has an incredibly high EQ, he is very good at reading other people. His abilities range from spotting lies during interrogations to figuring out the emotional turmoil in his fellow agents’ heads.
- Has a betting pool for how long it’ll take for certain agents to get together. Likes to meddle.
RELATIONSHIPS:
- Ten is a very distrustful person. Despite acting friendly and joking around with his coworkers, he doesn't consider everyone a friend.
- He is close with Taeyong, for whom he has a huge amount of respect, and he tries in his own cheeky way to make his serious coordinator smile and loosen up.
- He considers Johnny and Jaehyun friends, because Johnny saved his life once in a joint mission, and Jaehyun because they work together a lot.
- He likes Winwin because he understands his aloofness.
- Haechan is Ten's pride, even if he doesn't often say it out loud. Haechan is his brightest student and Ten sometimes feels a little jealous whenever Haechan gushes about Johnny, though he’ll never admit it out loud.
- Of all his pupils, Renjun is the most similar to Ten, in personality and fighting techniques. Knowing his own weaknesses, Ten always insists that Renjun needs to learn how to depend on others.
- Jisung is the last pupil to join his training. Ten admires Jisung’s resilience despite his vigorous training, and for the reason Jisung decided to get specialised training in hand-to-hand combat. He is also smug about “stealing” Yuta's best student.
- It takes Ten the longest time to trust Doyoung. He protested from the start that it shouldn't have been an option for Doyoung to redeem himself. He was especially furious to see Doyoung hanging out with Haechan, feeling overprotective (and jealous). On bad days, he purposely provokes Doyoung, as he knows where to poke to make him angry and rile him up. Nevertheless, Ten is impressed by the information network that Doyoung built over the years and can't deny that Doyoung is unconventionally skilled.
- Kun started out Ten as someone who shouldn't exist in his line of work - too hopeful, too kind and yet still perfectly functioning in his position. In Ten's world view, an agent's emotions are hardened by their everyday experiences of danger and betrayal. If this defense mechanism fails, they become dysfunctional. However, Kun's genuineness and optimism baffled him and he couldn't believe that this was Kun’s real self. Ten tried to crack his farce on multiple occasions, only to find that Kun is truly that good-hearted.
- Initially disappointed, then intrigued by this discovery, Ten found his attention always drawn to Kun and ultimately decided to ask him out. Ten didn't think that Kun would agree after Ten heckling him for so long, and also didn't expect to go on more dates afterwards. Nevertheless, one dinner turned into two, two dinners turned into gallery visits and a shy goodnight peck from Kun.
JAEHYUN
GENERAL:
- North America Branch / Asia Branch Agent
- Works in organised crime unit. Specialises in undercover missions.
- Is an agent in the North America Branch organised crime unit.
SKILLS:
- Jaehyun is fairly good at everything, but like Mark, he is especially good at marksmanship.
- Has a lot of stamina, which comes not only from his regular training but also his late night training sessions.
- One of the best in intelligence collection and undercover missions.
- In theory, he could become a Supervisory Special Agent, but he doesn't want to take on the responsibility of leading a mission.
Compatible teams:
- Johnny - Winwin - Jaehyun
- Ten - Jaehyun
- Haechan - Jaehyun
APPEARANCE:
- Height: 180cm
- Brown hair, brown eyes.
- Mostly wears a turtleneck or a dress shirt under his bulletproof vest and a leather jacket. Also often seen in his gym outfit.
- Has a gun strapped to his belt holster and a smaller one at his ankle.
PERSONALITY:
- Upon first meeting on a professional level, Jaehyun is a friendly and warm person. In reality, he is very reserved and withdrawn.
- During his time at the North America Branch, before he met Johnny, he had a partner who died during a mission with him. This experience left him with significant survivor’s guilt and emotional repression, and consequently, he doesn't let himself have good things as he feels he doesn’t deserve them.
- He has never fully recovered from the failed mission, which frequently haunts him at night in the form of nightmares and chronic insomnia. To prevent his poor sleeping habits from interfering with his work, he drinks a lot of coffee.
RELATIONSHIPS:
- As Jaehyun isn't an overly expressive person, he and Winwin get along well. Winwin also sympathises with Jaehyun.
- Mark is like a brother to him, as Jaehyun watched him grow from an academy graduate to an agent, and Jaehyun is very proud of him. They often work out together or go out to get food when Jaehyun looks especially tired. He knows Mark is trying to distract him and is very thankful for that.
- In his first few months after transferring to the Asia Branch, Jaehyun often was assigned to missions with Haechan. Haechan asked him a lot of questions about his past but noticed how reluctant Jaehyun is to talk about his experiences. Jaehyun feels very uncomfortable for being admired so much by the younger agent, who he thinks is a strong rookie with a lot of potential. He eventually opens up more to him and Haechan learns to ask questions more carefully.
- Jaehyun meets Johnny a couple months after his partner's death. Johnny was assigned as his new partner by the higher-ups, without any advance notice to Jaehyun. Jaehyun finds it unnerving that Johnny can see through him and always seems to be around when the past catches up to him again.
- They often complete missions successfully and are regarded as a strong duo team. In Jaehyun's opinion, their success are mostly because of Johnny's efforts in making things go so smoothly.
doyoung
GENERAL:
- Asia Branch Agent
- Formerly a “freelancer,” part of a network of thieves, hackers, assassins, bomb makers, etc. with gang affiliations, involved in several political assassinations, high-security information leaks, and other critical operations
- Doyoung only joined 3 months before getting caught by the agency. He was originally part of the backup, but their leader noticed Doyoung's strength in strategizing and gave him opportunities to join plan-making with the higher-ranking members of the group.
- He opposed to the group’s taunting of law enforcement (e.g. brutally torturing them) and thought it wasn't smart to get cocky even though they were well-established as fast and deadly. This didn't sit right with a lot of the members and ultimately, they abandoned him to be caught in his final mission as a freelancer.
- Taeyong originally intended to capture the entire squad, but only got Doyoung.
- His marksmanship, combat skills and sharp mind were acquired and honed by years of surviving in the streets and working as a low-ranking informant for various street gangs and criminal organisations.
- After capture, Doyoung chose to be an informant and work on probation instead of going to prison. As a result, he is given food and shelter, but must always be accompanied by Taeyong, an arrangement that wears on both of them.
SKILLS:
- All-rounder, able to wield any weapon or defend himself without. In theory, he can fill in for any spot on Yuta's sniper squad or join Ten's squad. His most impressive gift is his quick wit and strategic planning.
- After arguing with and begging Taeyong for ages, Yuta once took him on a field trip. He placed 2 rows of glass bottles at the cliff down in the valley and they hiked up to the mountain top where he and Doyoung shot at the bottles with his sniper rifle. Yuta hit 10/10, Doyoung 9/10.
- Once, Ten was in a bad temper and called Doyoung something ugly, which resulted in them fighting in the hallway. Doyoung could withstand Ten's vicious attacks for around 20 minutes. Right when he was about to be struck by Ten, Taeyong stepped in between them and ended the brawl. Taeyong had been lurking around the corner, observing Doyoung's fighting style.
- Although he never stayed long with any one gang or criminal organisation, he built up an intricate network of ally informants, which comes in handy when the agency needs intel.
Compatible teams:
- Haechan - Johnny - Doyoung
- Jaehyun - Johnny - Doyoung
- Taeyong - Yuta - Doyoung
APPEARANCE:
- Height: 180cm
- Black hair, dark eyes.
- He wears casual clothes, and pairs his turtlenecks with patterned dress shirts.
- When he got captured, it took a while to disarm him because he was strapped with weapons from head to toe: small-sized guns on both ankles, knives to his thighs, other weapons in secret pockets of his clothes and a ring on his index finger that has a flip switch for a sedative.
- There is a thin, titanium cuff around his ankle developed by the quartermasters equipped with tracking technology to detect his location in case he escapes.
PERSONALITY:
- Very direct, brazen, short-tempered.
- He hates the organised structure of the agency and its bureaucracy. In the beginning, he mostly argues with Taeyong over how he should ignore regulations for strategic planning because they reduce efficiency and lower their probability of success. Over time, Doyoung also tries to find loopholes in the rules for Taeyong so the team can act more quickly without getting into trouble.
- “You could've become a terrific lawyer,” Taeyong admitted once.
Doyoung scoffed. “If I’d had the opportunity for proper education. Or proper…anything.”
- Over the years, he developed some sort of a moral code for himself, including:
In all business that involves killing, he will make it short and painless.
No stealing from the poor.
No partaking in human trafficking.
RELATIONSHIPS:
- Doyoung is fond of the rookies, especially Haechan, who he believes has the potential to become one of the best strategists Doyoung has ever seen, and Jeno, who he cherishes for his innocence and trust.
- Whenever Haechan is free, he seeks Doyoung’s advice on the scheme-devising homework he gets from Taeyong. Doyoung also gives him a crucial piece of advice for fighting in close combat with people much taller and stronger than him, such as Johnny.
- Despite his constant supervision, Doyoung grows close enough to Yuta to call him a friend within a month of being under supervision at the agency. Doyoung usually goes to Yuta when he is extremely pissed at Taeyong or at his situation in general, as he feels safe enough to vent to Yuta.
- Doyoung thinks very highly of Johnny, who is also one of the first few agents he feels at ease around.
- Winwin and Ten don't hide their distrust of Doyoung, especially Ten. Ten has a very long argument with Taeyong when he notices Doyoung hanging out with the rookies (“You don't know what he will do to them. He could brainwash them, even kill them. You wouldn't even see it coming.” - “I believe that we trained our rookies well enough to be able to defend themselves, Ten. If you can't trust him, at least believe in your own trainees.”) Despite Taeyong’s reassurances, Ten continues to verbally rile Doyoung up.
- Doyoung respects Taeyong not only because Taeyong managed to capture him but also because he keeps such a close watch that Doyoung has no way to escape. Although he would never admit it, Doyoung also thinks it's a great feat to be able to lead the agency at such a young age.
- In the beginning, their arguments mostly result from major differences in their backgrounds and personalities, and of course, out of spite, as Doyoung views Taeyong as a physical manifestation of his lockdown situation. After a while, Doyoung learns to enjoy the intellectual banter he can have with Taeyong while discussing strategy, and comes to admire Taeyong’s intelligence and kindness.
- On Taeyong's birthday, Taeyong receives a card from Mark and Haechan. Under the good wishes, Mark signed his name, then Haechan visibly signed his name over Mark's signature, obnoxiously bigger, which makes Taeyong laugh. It's a breathtaking, rare sight, and Doyoung is acutely aware of the attraction he feels towards Taeyong, who catches him staring, his laughter faltering. “Why are you looking like that?”
His question tears Doyoung out of his dumbfounded state. “Nothing. I'm enjoying the view,” Doyoung lies, gesturing at the cityscape outside of Taeyong's window. (The view is Taeyong!!)
MARK
GENERAL:
- North America Branch Agent / Asia Branch Agent
- All-rounder under Johnny and Taeyong’s training. Also in training to become a mission coordinator like Taeyong.
- Was already brought on to join missions while still in academy, allowing him to graduate with significant field experience. Upon graduation, he was hand-picked by Johnny to join his unit in the North America Branch.
- His experience includes a significant range of knowledge and skills as a result of the various types of missions he’s taken over the years, as well as those acquired in the organised crime unit. Because of his talents in leadership, Johnny suggested for Mark to join him and Jaehyun at the Asia Branch so Mark could train under Taeyong.
SKILLS:
- Like Haechan, Mark scored full marks in his academy exams, with excellent grades in marksmanship and operations planning.
- In missions, Mark tends to lead the general planning, whereas Haechan will take charge to make spontaneous mid-mission decisions where flexibility is required, making them a strong team in the field.
- Mark received invitations from several agencies when he graduated, but he chose to follow Johnny.
- Mostly uses guns, but also keeps a knife hidden in one of his back pockets. He also wears gun holsters with customised guns.
Compatible teams:
- Haechan - Renjun - Mark
- Johnny - Jaehyun - Mark
- Lucas - Winwin - Mark
- Jaemin - Renjun - Mark
APPEARANCE:
- Height: 174cm
- Black hair, brown eyes.
- Dresses formally at work.
PERSONALITY:
- Seems quiet and shy at first, and tends to ramble.
- When he warms up to someone, he becomes very talkative.
- Mark is a hard worker, and has a strong sense of duty and responsibility. Unlike Haechan, he had to practice a lot to get full scores, but he never complains.
RELATIONSHIPS:
- Mark has a lot of respect for his mentors Johnny and Taeyong. Both taught him their skills and helped him towards the success he has today, for which he is very grateful. Naturally, he is closer to Johnny, who is like an older brother to him.
- Jaehyun is also like a brother to him, even more so than Johnny because Jaehyun doesn’t really mentor him. Mark feels a lot of sympathy towards Jaehyun’s situation, and tries to help in his own way. He isn’t oblivious to Johnny and Jaehyun’s relationship, but he rarely comments on it.
- Mark admires Haechan a lot, but he would never admit this out loud. He is very susceptible towards Haechan’s teasing, always rising to the argument or challenge, which inadvertently makes him Haechan’s favorite target.
- They keep a running score on who won what, e.g. sparring, gun training, theoretical assignments from Taeyong, successful missions, etc. They have equal points in total, but Mark scores higher in gun training while Haechan is better in sparring.
- Mark also feels annoyed when Haechan clings to Johnny during Mark’s training time, or just any time when Mark is with his mentor.
- Mark becomes acquainted with Lucas after his transferral from North America Branch, when he needed his gear repaired and updated. He was expecting the quartermasters to be more quiet and withdrawn, so Lucas’s personality totally catches him off guard, as Lucas is very extroverted and bright and enthusiastic. After befriending Lucas, Mark finds himself wandering down to the labs during his breaks, seeking the quartermaster out to chat while Lucas works on his gadgets. He likes how Lucas always makes him laugh.
- When Mark starts his training with Taeyong, he needs to consult with the quartermasters on equipment before planning operations, which gives him more opportunities to go down to the labs. Mark’s training often keeps him very busy, so he appreciates it when Lucas brings him food when Mark stays up late in the office working on his reports. He notices his growing feelings for Lucas but is set on finishing his training first before eventually, maybe, talking to Lucas about them.
HAECHAN
GENERAL:
- Asia Branch Agent
- Part of Ten’s X recon squad.
- An all-round agent under Taeyong and Ten. Under Taeyong, Haechan is training to specialise in critical incident response and strategic operations; under Ten, in hand-to-hand combat.
- Has had a reputation since academy days, and despite his excellent grades, his instructors back then told him that he would likely fail to get recruited or keep a position for very long due to his disobedience. Despite these remarks, Taeyong still considered and eventually recruited him because of his unprecedented high score on operations planning and Ten's interest in his combat skills.
SKILLS:
- High scores in marksmanship, combat, strategic planning.
- Taeyong places him as the strategic mind on missions, especially in combination with other rookies. (Usually, Supervisory Special Agents are the decision-makers of missions.)
- Haechan's quick wit and decision-making skills once saved Chenle and Jisung's lives.
- Under Ten’s vigorous training, Haechan's fighting technique aims to neutralise and immobilise opponents quickly rather that being lethal. Influences include hapkido, aikido and jiu jitsu.
- Yuta wanted to recruit him to his sniper squad due to his excellent grades in marksmanship, but Haechan turned him down to pursue operations planning.
- Despite their rivalry, he and Mark are terrific together in teams, in which Mark maps out the general outline of the operation and Haechan makes spontaneous decisions when situations require flexibility.
- Has considered becoming a coordinator like Taeyong and Mark. However, Haechan prefers the freedom he has a normal agent, and doesn’t have the patience for the amount of paperwork that coordination requires.
Compatible teams:
- Renjun - Jisung - Haechan
- Johnny - Jaehyun - Haechan
- Mark - Renjun - Haechan
APPEARANCE:
- Height: 174cm
- Auburn hair, brown eyes.
- Wears his bulletproof vest over his shirt.
- During training, he wears trekking suits.
PERSONALITY & RELATIONSHIPS:
- Bright and loud, vocal about his opinion.
- Playful and loves to rile people up. His favorite targets are Mark and Renjun.
- Highly intelligent. Taeil has his IQ test scores on file but refuses to share the result so Haechan can’t brag about it.
- Renjun and Haechan have known each other since academy days and graduated in the same year. They have been best friends since, and have only grown closer since they are both on Ten's squad.
- He fights a lot with Renjun over useless things (“YOU DARE TO CALL ME SHORT LEGGED EVEN THOUGH YOU'RE A MIDGET” or “ASSHOLE, DID YOU EAT MY WAFFLE”) but they are the most like-minded duo at HQ.
- Haechan's admiration for Johnny is unrivalled. He wants to become an agent and good person like Johnny, so he always tries to find time to make Johnny train with him. (Ten is slightly jealous, Mark is very jealous.)
- Another of Haechan's mentors is Doyoung, with whom he can have intellectual conversations about strategic planning. Doyoung helps him out with some of the theoretical assignments Taeyong gives to Haechan, and Taeyong and Doyoung both have a vested interest in growing Haechan’s strategy skills.
- His rivalry with Mark started from the day Taeyong announced that a young prodigy agent from the North America Branch would join them in Seoul and possibly become his co-coordinator. Upon Mark’s arrival at the Asia Branch, they were already trying to brawl it out that first evening until Johnny pulled them apart. Johnny being Mark's instructor only adds fuel to Haechan’s jealousy.
- He can very quickly read other people’s moods and assess the atmosphere of a room, but when it comes to his own feelings, he can be oblivious and needs other people (such as Ten and Johnny) to point out obvious things.
RENJUN
GENERAL:
- Asia Branch Agent
- Part of Ten’s X recon squad.
- All-rounder under Ten's training. On rare occasions, gets mentored by Johnny.
- Specialises in close combat, hostage rescue, target acquisition. Also supports in rescue missions and bomb disposal missions.
SKILLS:
- Highly skilled in hand-to-hand combat as a result of Ten's training.
- Renjun is an excellent strategist, but unlike Haechan, he doesn't have any particular interest or ambition in specialising in this area.
- Renjun’s fighting style involves a lot of chokeholds and includes elements of jiu jitsu, krav maga and muay thai. Despite his short stature, Renjun has trained hard to gain stamina to use it as an element of surprise.
- If Haechan doesn't manage to defeat him within the first 3 minutes, Renjun will definitely win the fight.
- His weapons of choice are knives. Scored fairly well in marksmanship.
- Ten tries to convince him to take on more undercover missions, as he is fully capable of doing solo missions. Ten mentioned his potential to Johnny, which originally sparked Johnny’s interest in Renjun.
Compatible teams:
- Haechan - Mark - Renjun
- Yangyang - Ten - Renjun
- Jeno - Haechan - Renjun
APPEARANCE:
- Height: 170cm
- Dark brown hair, black eyes.
- Usually wears hoodies and sweaters. Has a Moomin tattoo on his inner thigh that he got when the rookies graduated from academy.
PERSONALITY:
- Highly intelligent, but tends to hide this behind indifference.
- Seems to be one of the calmer rookies. However, like his fellow squad members, his patience is short. Though he is better at hiding his emotions, he doesn’t pull his punches. Can be brutally honest.
- Loves a good challenge, but gets bored easily. People that can hold his attention are Haechan and Ten.
RELATIONSHIPS:
- On their first day at the academy, Haechan sat next to him, looking equally bored, and they became fast friends. Because they are both short, they initially encountered some difficulty in close combat classes against their taller and bigger classmates.
- “We have to do something about this. I can't stand being their punching bag every time we have hand-to-hand combat class,” Haechan huffed, dropping himself to the ground beside Renjun. “I can't stand losing against these airheads.”
“I agree,” Renjun said, voice muffled behind the cool towel pressed against his bleeding nose. “We'll outsmart them. They won’t even see it coming.”
- With Jeno's help, they trained very hard to develop their quick fighting styles to counter their opponents.
- They do their operations planning assignments together, finding flaws in each other's work. Although Haechan is incredibly creative, he sometimes lacks in farsightedness, and his plans can lack follow-through. Renjun points out the impracticality of Haechan's eccentric ideas and supplies efficient solutions.
- Haechan is the only rookie who can hold his own against him in banter, tirelessly firing back retorts. It excites Renjun that they never know who will win in the end.
- Renjun already felt something for Haechan when they were both at the academy, but brushed off his feelings. By that time, Haechan had already earned the reputation of “that rebellious genius student” and people often gossiped about whether he would find an agency due to his behavior; Renjun never once doubted that he would. Renjun told himself that his feelings were because Haechan has such a magnetic personality, and that other people were surely feeling the same interest.
- When Mark joined them at HQ, he was the only thing Haechan talked about, so Renjun felt a bit jealous and acted especially cranky as a result. Renjun took his frustrations out on Mark, joining in when Haechan teased Mark, and packing his annoyance into sparring practice. (Jisung noticed since he was Renjun’s sparring partner at the time.)
- Shortly before their graduation, Ten reached out to both Haechan and Renjun, to Renjun’s surprise. Renjun highly respects Ten and is also very intimidated by him, which doesn’t happen often.
- They’ve grown close during their training, as Renjun realises how well Ten understands him. He knows Ten will never allow him to feel bored or unchallenged, and is constantly looking for ways to push Renjun to grow.
- Loves to participate in pranks with the other rookies. He and Haechan are usually the ones scheming. Renjun organises hangouts with the rookies, where they either go out to town or stay in to watch movies in their converted office.
YANGYANG
GENERAL:
- Asia Branch Agent
- Part of Ten’s X recon squad.
- Like everyone from Ten’s squad, he is highly skilled in martial arts.
- Mostly supports bomb squad on their missions.
SKILLS:
- He was hand-picked by Ten from the academy, as Ten had already seen Yangyang’s performance during one of his guest visits.
- He is also a hybrid martial arts fighter, with roots in Western fighting styles like savate and systema. After coming to the Asia Branch, he starts to incorporate more Asian styles.
- Like the other members of Ten’s squad, his agility and quick wit allow him to make quick decisions in uncertain situations. Yangyang eventually becomes one of the youngest agents to do solo missions.
Compatible teams:
- Kun - Ten - Yangyang
- Kun - Xiaojun - Yangyang
- Winwin - Lucas - Yangyang
APPEARANCE:
- Height: 170cm
- Dark brown hair and eyes.
- Often wears hoodies and loose pants at HQ. During missions, he wears a black jacket and black cargo pants.
- Owns a red sports car that has been specially equipped by the Qs.
PERSONALITY:
- Loud and boisterous.
- He is very confident and has a knack for mischief.
- He enjoys pointing out things that rile people up. (Hendery believes that with every exasperated sigh, Yangyang grows stronger.)
- On his day of graduation, he pulled up in his sports car to receive his diploma.
RELATIONSHIPS:
- He is a perfect match with Ten as his squad leader. Yangyang respects him a lot and his goal is to one day beat him in sparring.
- Kun is fond of Yangyang, even though Yangyang stresses him out from day one. Their relationship involves a lot of teasing, especially about Kun’s “old” age.
- Yangyang sometimes calls Xiaojun German pet names without explaining them to him, and loves to see Xiaojun flustered.
- Since he is Xiaojun’s roommate, he witnesses a lot of his friend’s ups and downs. Yangyang isn’t good at things like cheering people up, but when Xiaojun failed one of his simulation exams in bomb disposal, Yangyang took him out to a nearby music store. He’d noticed that Xiaojun’s eyes kept flicking to one of the guitars in the display window and buys it for him despite Xiaojun’s protests. He tells Xiaojun to repay him by playing music for him when both of them are worn out from training.
TAEIL
GENERAL:
- Asia Branch Information Technician
- Was originally intended to be the 2nd quartermaster, but because of his significant workload in IT, Taeyong hired Lucas.
- Transmits information to agents in the field about targets and locations, directing them through their earpiece.
- Very rarely goes in the field due to his lack of fighting skills beyond basic self-defence; Winwin is dispatched instead when IT support is needed.
- His office is big, but looks cramped due to the sheer volume of computer parts and piles of paperwork. Taeyong usually meets him outside of his office.
SKILLS:
- Strongly proficient in all areas of IT, but typically leaves cyberdefense and data encryption to Winwin.
- Enjoys data analysis and communicating with the agents.
- Collects old gaming consoles and tries to convert them into useful gadgets in his free time.
- Converted an old Gameboy into a portable secondary computer, so he can be reached anytime.
- He is the only person besides Taeyong who knows the whereabouts of every agent and their mission details. Rank-wise, Taeil and Taeyong are equals.
APPEARANCE:
- Height: 173cm
- Black hair, round glasses.
- Wears casual clothes. Can sometimes be found wandering the corridors in his pajamas.
PERSONALITY & RELATIONSHIPS:
- Neither a really quiet person, nor very loud. Gets chatty about subjects of interest.
- Dotes on Winwin a lot. Is aware that Winwin is less physically aggressive with him than with Yuta because Taeil can't fight him.
- Always shows his newly converted gadgets to Winwin first. Winwin will either hum in approval or raise his eyebrows in disapproval.
- His and Winwin's offices are separated by one wall with a door that is usually open (unless Winwin really, really doesn't want to talk).
- Taeil and Taeyong are close. Both bear the burden of significant responsibility and understand each others’ problems the most. As they hold equally high-ranking positions at HQ, there is no gap of seniority between them.
- Each team has an assigned mentor, but Taeil lends his ear to anyone who needs someone to talk to. He is a great listener.
- He makes sure to greet agents when they return from missions, often preparing overly sweetened tea and oddly-shaped baked goods.
- He makes it his mission to teach Mark about technology that is necessary for everyday life, as Mark is a bit hopeless with anything that has a battery.
- “I'm half a decade older than you, and you don’t even know how to order socks online. How did you even…pass the academy exams?!” - “ Uhm... I learned everything by heart? Where to click…”
- He’s close to Jungwoo, who often hangs out in his office and they can spend hours talking about menial things whilst doing their paperwork.
WINWIN
GENERAL:
- Asia Branch Information Technician & Field Agent
- Formerly worked for the Chinese government in their cyberdefense department.
- Responsible for encrypting and protecting all the information about the agents and the missions they work on.
- As a field agent, he is an all-rounder and often fills in for teams during missions that require hacking skills.
- His office is next door to Taeil’s office.
SKILLS:
- One of the youngest and most highly skilled hackers and IT experts.
- Was the mastermind behind the cyberdefense system of the Chinese government, a program named WANLI.
- Has a spotless record. Was not recruited as a captured hacker, but gained his position by self-studying and later enrolling in IT courses.
- Possesses very good hand-to-hand combat skills (as Yuta has experienced firsthand), and is able to spar with Ten for a few rounds. Also a good shot.
Compatible teams:
- Jaehyun - Mark - Winwin
- Kun - Taeyong - Johnny - Winwin
- Haechan - Renjun - Yuta - Winwin
APPEARANCE:
- Height: 178cm
- Dark blond hair, dark brown eyes, lean build.
- Sometimes wears glasses when he works in front of his computer monitors.
- Wears hoodies and jeans when he’s working in his office. On missions, he wears a black windbreaker and carries a bag with his laptop.
- Keeps various transmitters in his pockets and bag, including one from Taeil.
PERSONALITY:
- Very quiet and reserved person, partly as a result of the training he received in China as well as his childhood as an orphan.
- Selected by the Chinese Secret Service at a young age, and thus received a different upbringing than most people.
RELATIONSHIPS:
- He likes his coworkers but doesn’t usually seek them out.
- Taeil is his office neighbor and coworker in the IT department, and constantly showers Winwin with his affection. Rather than not appreciating it, Winwin doesn’t know how to reciprocate properly, which makes him nervous. This is the main reason why he doesn’t accept Taeil’s unsolicited hugs and cuddles.
- He respects Taeil, who has his own eccentric way of dealing with everything, whereas Winwin has a more efficient and straightforward type when it comes to work. Taeil saved his life once.
- Yuta is even more blunt than Taeil and Winwin resorts to shutting him up by literally fighting him. Winwin struggles with the way Yuta sometimes randomly blurts out how adorable he finds him, and consistently resists Yuta’s advances.
- Winwin doesn’t trust Doyoung for a long time.
- Winwin and Jaehyun enjoy each other’s company, and share a tacit understanding of each other’s personalities and situations.
LUCAS
GENERAL:
- Asia Branch Quartermaster & Field Agent
- Like Chenle, is responsible for supplying teams with equipment.
- Specializes in building firearms, bombs, and micro/nanotechnology, but also works on bigger machines like the agency’s vehicles.
- Reports to Taeyong.
SKILLS:
- Has a lot of experience with nanotechnology, which he mostly uses for making tiny chips for the agents’ gadgets for tracking and data collection purposes.
- The higher-ups have suggested to Taeyong that agents should have chips implanted into their bodies for maximum accountability, but Taeyong vehemently fought this policy because he trusts everyone he recruited. For Taeyong, surveillance to this degree would be betraying their trust in the agency. This caused some controversy over Lucas’s technology.
- During bomb disposal missions, Lucas is often consulted when sophisticated explosives are found, and occasionally steps in to diffuse bombs as well.
- Very good at hand-to-hand combat, has a lot of strength. Is on the support/back up team in large team missions.
- Like Chenle, he is able to fill in for IT when needed.
Compatible teams:
- Kun - Ten - Winwin - Lucas
- Winwin - Jaehyun - Mark - Lucas
- Renjun - Yangyang - Hendery - Lucas
APPEARANCE:
- Height: 183cm
- Black hair, brown eyes, muscular.
- Often doesn’t wear his lab coat.
- Wears t-shirts or tank-tops, baggy pants, safety specs, and gloves.
- Keeps many tools in his pockets.
PERSONALITY & RELATIONSHIPS:
- Loud, friendly, always a moodmaker.
Sometimes can find it hard to calm down, in which case he goes looking for Jungwoo or Kun.
- Joined the agency later than Chenle.
- The amount of explosions coming from his lab could compete with Chenle’s (probably unintentional). He and Chenle are super close, and sometimes pull all-nighters together to gush over inventions that could possibly blow up the whole agency. (Again, not their intention, ok!)
- He and Chenle check each other’s inventions before passing them out to the agents, which sometimes puts them in danger.
- Likes to hang out with the rookies.
- Lucas and Ten and Kun sometimes go out for drinks.
- He and Jeno are the first to take Mark around HQ and introduce him to their fellow rookies when he is transferred to Asia Branch.
- Sometimes when Chenle steps out and Mark isn’t in the field on a mission, Mark goes down to the lab to listen to Lucas ramble on about his newest idea for a gadget. Lucas appreciates Mark’s company.
- Once, when Winwin and Taeil were both unavailable, Lucas filled in for IT and guided Mark through a mission.
CHENLE
GENERAL:
- Asia Branch Quartermaster & Sniper Squad Member
- Specialises in firearms and gadgets for communication and surveillance.
- Very interested in special materials (material scientist).
- Despite building strange and innovative machines and weapons, he always tests them himself several times, running intensive safety checks before handing them over to his comrades for usage in the field.
- As a result, there is a persistent burnt smell emitting from his lab at all times. (Everyone is used to it by now.)
- Reports to Yuta and Taeyong. Yuta oversees his activities as a sniper whereas Taeyong keeps his laboratory activities in check.
SKILLS:
- Good sniper, but looks up to Jisung’s sharpshooting skills.
- Yuta considers him one of the most valuable assets of the agency, and sometimes comes to Chenle’s defense when Taeyong gets mad at him for causing trouble.
- Good at hand-to-hand combat.
- Occasionally fills in for Taeil or Winwin in IT, and has a profound understanding of IT procedures. Is on support/back-up team in large team missions.
- Designs and makes all bulletproof vests, eyewear, bags of various sizes for carrying all sorts of items needed in the field.
Compatible teams:
- Mark - Haechan - Renjun - Chenle
- Kun - Ten - Winwin - Chenle
APPEARANCE:
- Height: 174cm
- Brown eyes, greenish-yellowish hair. Jisung and Haechan dyed his hair.
- Wears safety specs and earmuffs in the lab.
- Quartermasters wear yellow jackets. Tends to wear hoodies under his lab coat.
PERSONALITY & RELATIONSHIPS:
- Quirky, friendly, and loud, especially when it comes to discussing or sharing his inventions. Befriends people quickly.
- Considers the other rookies his brothers.
- Lucas is his partner in crime in the lab, and often acts like fuel to all the ideas Chenle thinks up for his inventions (to Taeyong’s chagrin).
- Very close to Jisung.
- Jisung is very excited about his best friend’s inventions and always volunteers to test them first. As a result, Chenle is even more cautious when he hands them over to Jisung, double and triple checking even after weapons have been cleared from QC to ensure Jisung isn’t harmed.
- Chenle is not as mischievous as the other rookies, but if Jisung is part of a prank (which is often), Chenle doesn’t mind joining in on the fun.
- Sometimes envious of Jaemin and Jeno, who are allowed to go on missions together. He and Jisung are no longer allowed to do so due to a mistake that nearly led to their deaths.
- Despite his closeness to Kun, Chenle is scared of Ten.
- In general, a Good Boy™.
HENDERY
GENERAL:
- Asia Branch Quartermaster
- Provides tech support for the bomb squad.
- Supplies teams with heavy equipment and vehicles, as well as his robots.
SKILLS:
- Started designing and building robots in his early teens. One of his first successful robots, which he built at the age of 14, carried food from the kitchen to his room.
- Was offered a fully funded scholarship at MIT, but instead he followed his friends to the academy to study and train in the science and tech branch.
- Also received basic agent training. Decent at close combat fighting.
- Like Chenle and Lucas, can also support IT.
- Before Hendery even joined the agency, Chenle already consulted with him on the small CCTV bugs that Chenle designed to monitor the agency.
- His current priority is to develop robots to assist bomb squad in scanning the perimeter of secured areas and detecting explosives. Matching this data with the signatures from Kun’s database is incredibly valuable for the bomb squad’s work.
- Although his expertise lies in robotics, he often assists Lucas and Chenle with weapons design and brings unconventional ideas to the table.
APPEARANCE:
- Height: 172cm
- Black hair, black eyes.
- Wears sweaters over his dress shirt. (Yangyang thinks it’s a classic nerd look.)
PERSONALITY:
- Has a quirky personality.
- Can be shy and quiet, but when he is around people he is familiar with or is very excited, he talks a lot and jokes around, showing a streak of mischief.
- Has a diligent, determined side.
- During his basic training at the academy, Hendery saw and understood the threats an agent faces in his work on a daily basis. It’s his goal to design robots that will protect his comrades from danger.
RELATIONSHIPS:
- During his training, he met Ten in one of the hand-to-hand combat lessons, when Ten visited as a guest instructor. His admiration for Ten was born on that day. Afterwards, Hendery took additional combat classes even though they weren’t necessary for his course.
- After graduation, Hendery still highly looks up to Ten.
- Yangyang often comes drops by the lab to discuss potential upgrades to his car which Hendery has to refuse, on Kun’s orders.
- Despite his innocent appearance, Hendery sometimes joins in on Yangyang’s shenanigans when teasing Xiaojun.
KUN
GENERAL:
- Asia Branch Bomb Squad Leader & Field Agent
- The only squad leader who isn't mentoring rookies.
- Rarely seen at HQ due to long missions. The bomb squad lacks manpower, which is why he often needs to add Lucas or Chenle to his mission lineups before Xiaojun joined
- Was a field agent before specializing in explosives
- Has vast experience in the field, comparable to Johnny’s. However, due to his frequent absences and quiet nature, this is not known to many.
- His desk in his HQ office is neat and clean, with a row of small figurines that were gifts from Chenle and Renjun.
SKILLS:
- Has profound knowledge of explosives of all sizes and forms, which makes him a highly wanted target.
- Usually the one who spots booby traps in the fine wiring of the bombs.
- He is creating a database for fragments and building signatures of the bombs they come across to identify culprits.
- A skilled marksman.
- Decent in hand-to-hand combat. Usually spars and trains with Ten when they are back from missions.
Compatible teams:
- Yangyang - Ten - Xiaojun - Kun
- Lucas - Winwin - Ten - Kun
APPEARANCE:
- Height: 176cm
- Dark brown hair.
- Usually wears formal wear when he is not in his protective suit. When he's especially tired, can also be found in cozy sweaters.
- Wears black gloves that were a gift from Ten and Chenle, made of a special material that Chenle crafted in his lab.
- They keep Kun's hands warm when he is on missions in cold countries so they don't shake and stay limber when he has to diffuse explosives in severe outdoor conditions. Ten designed the appearance and Chenle (with some help from Lucas) added microsensors that can detect hazardous materials.
PERSONALITY:
- Very soft-spoken, patient, and calm.
- No matter how precarious the situation is, Kun can always keep his cool and make the best out of a disaster.
- Tends to do magic tricks whenever there are civilians involved, intending to calm them down or distract them from the emergency situation.
RELATIONSHIPS:
- Owns a bomb-detecting dog named Coco, who sometimes joins him in the field. When he's not home and doesn’t bring her along, the other agents in Seoul (typically Xiaojun and Yangyang) take turns to look after her.
- When the rookies, especially Chenle and Renjun, know that he is back in HQ, they break more rules than usual because they know they can run to Kun when Taeyong is lecturing them.
- Very proud of and thankful for Lucas and Chenle, who assist him when there is a need for technology or manpower support.
- Likes to spend time with Winwin and Ten.
- Kun thinks very highly of Ten, who is often assigned to missions with him, partly to do recon for the bomb squad and also to look after Kun, who is considered valuable and dangerous (depending whether you want the bombs to explode or not.)
- Johnny often takes Kun out for a drink when he comes back from a mission. It’s his way of saying “Hey, we missed you.”
JUNGWOO
General:
- Asia Branch Agent
- Specialises in undercover mission and counterintelligence
- Like Johnny, he is also in charge of interrogation
Skills:
- An excellent marksman and good at hand-to-hand combat.
- His quick wits and adaptability are the perfect basis for undercover work.
- Highly skilled interrogator, can detect weak points or lies in a statement and use it against his subject.
- Helps other agents with their legends (=undercover identities) before they start their missions
- Can work alone or in teams.
Compatible teams:
- Mark - Haechan - Jungwoo
- Mark - Doyoung - Yuta - Jungwoo
Appearance:
- Height: 180cm
- Soft, reddish brown hair and black eyes
- wears sweaters when he's at HQ and sometimes seen in his yoga athleisure
Personality/Relationships:
- quiet and soft-spoken at first glance, but when he becomes comfortable with a person or situation, his demeanor changes to playful and teasing.
- It’s hard to follow his thought process, as he often is a few steps ahead.
- Jungwoo likes to tease Mark a lot, pretending to kiss him every time the younger agent returns successfully from a mission.
- Also hangs out with Hyuck a lot and plants ideas for pranks into his head. Sometimes they gang up on Mark.
- Since his communications from the field are mostly handled by Taeil, Jungwoo and him are constantly connected. When Jungwoo is back at HQ, he is often seen chatting in Taeil’s office.
- Doyoung’s addition to the agency piqued his interest in the former mercenary. They are surprisingly close and Jungwoo seems to be less mischievous around him.
XIAOJUN
GENERAL:
- Asia Branch Bomb Squad Member & Field Agent
- Selected by Kun because of his eye for detail. Supports him in bomb disposal.
- Since he doesn’t have many missions besides bomb squad missions yet, he usually stays back at HQ and helps out here and there (Hendery in the lab, training with Yangyang, etc.).
SKILLS:
- Besides bomb disposal, Xiaojun is well-trained in marksmanship. Being classmates and roommates with Yangyang helped him train his close combat skills as well.
- Has always been very careful and detail-oriented.
- Has some IT knowledge and helps Winwin to improve Kun’s database.
Compatible teams:
- Kun - Ten - Xiaojun
- Kun - Yangyang - Xiaojun
APPEARANCE:
- Height: 170cm
- Black hair, black eyes.
- Wears denim and bomber jackets over t-shirts or simple sweaters. - Prefers comfortable clothes.
PERSONALITY:
- Mostly soft-spoken and polite.
- A good-natured person, but can get loud when Yangyang pesters him.
- Almost dropped out of the academy but managed to graduate among the top 5 of his year.
RELATIONSHIPS:
- Due to his lack of experience, Xiaojun sometimes loses confidence on missions, and Kun has to reassure and calm the younger agent down.
- Xiaojun already heard of Kun while he was in the academy and looks up to him a lot (though in a more lowkey way than Hendery’s admiration for Ten). After joining the bomb squad, he read through all the data Kun collected for the database despite its massive length.
- On missions, Kun usually lets Xiaojun do most of the work as he believes Xiaojun can perform well, staying close just in case. Occasionally, he steps in to make sure that Xiaojun’s unfounded self-doubt and general nervousness don’t interfere with cutting wires of explosives.
- Even off missions, they spend a lot of time together, sparring or discussing bombs.
- Hendery and Yangyang were both his academy classmates, so the three of them are close and spend a lot of time together.
- Yangyang has been his roommate since academy days. Due to their sudden recruitment, they haven’t found an apartment yet and currently share one of the empty apartments that belong to Chenle.
- Xiaojun knows that Yangyang loves to test his patience and, most of the time, tries to not let Yangyang get to him. He also knows it’s Yangyang’s way of trying to lift his mood or distract him from any anxious thoughts that are bothering him, so he never stays angry even when Yangyang goes too far and annoys him.
JAEMIN
GENERAL:
- Asia Branch Sniper Squad Member
- Specialises in rescue mission and hostage missions with Jeno.
- Has pastel goth tendencies he can't live out during missions, so his quarters are decorated like a fairyland.
SKILLS:
- Like Jeno, his emotional stability allows him to do difficult missions when lives are at stake.
- Highly-skilled marksman. Good at hand-to-hand combat.
- Keeps knives and small guns strapped all over him for worst case scenarios. As a sniper, that is being detected by the enemy.
Compatible teams:
- Jeno - Jaemin
- Taeyong - Ten - Jeno - Jaemin
- Winwin - Jaehyun - Jaemin
APPEARANCE:
- Height: 175cm
- light hair, brown eyes. Hides his hair color under a black beanie during missions.
- Often wears soft pastel sweaters with long sleeves.
PERSONALITY & RELATIONSHIPS:
- By first impression, he and Jeno are similar - very polite, all smiles, calm and grounded.
- Jaemin, however, is a realist. His strength in their partnership is to provide the voice of rationality, whereas Jeno provides the positive mentality.
- Jaemin really loves to cuddle with people, but his favourite to cuddle is Jeno. He's very generous with his affection.
- He and the other rookies turned a deserted office at HQ into their movie room. This mini-theater is their main hangout spot, where they hold their movie marathons and sleepovers.
Jaemin is also fond of Haechan, who sometimes doesn't know how to interpret or return his affection.
JENO
GENERAL:
- Asia Branch Sniper Squad Member
- Often deployed in rescue missions and hostage situations with Jaemin.
- There is a cat café he frequents despite his allergies.
SKILLS:
- Has the calmest nerves of all the rookies. Yuta and Taeyong assign him to long missions, as they trust his even temper and ability to keep his head.
- Highly skilled marksman with good strength and stamina. Johnny coaches him from time to time.
- His combination with Jaemin was already famous back in their academy days.
Compatible teams:
- Jaemin - Jeno
- Haechan - Renjun - Jaemin - Jeno
- Taeyong - Ten - Jeno
APPEARANCE:
- Height: 177cm
- Black hair, black eyes.
- Tall. On the muscular side.
- Like all snipers, he wears a bulletproof vest and usually wears comfortable clothes.
- He and Jaemin wear each other's dog tags.
PERSONALITY & RELATIONSHIPS:
- Optimistic, sometimes stubbornly so.
- Very polite and soft-spoken.
- He and Jaemin are always together; you can rarely find one without the other by his side.
- Jeno has never said so out loud, but to him, Jaemin is his soulmate.
- Doyoung is fascinated by how pure his mind is. In their line of work, they are always tightrope walking between life and death, which changes people. Doyoung is taken aback at how Jeno doesn't care about his background and (foolishly, in Doyoung’s opinion) trusts him wholeheartedly. However, that same trust causes Doyoung to cherish Jeno’s innocence against his own will.
JISUNG
GENERAL:
- Asia Branch Sniper Squad Member
- Youngest agent of the Asia Branch. Was in the same class in academy as Chenle.
- His main duties are reconnaissance and support in tactical missions, but he can assist in any situation.
- The only person at HQ who volunteers to test Chenle's gadgets.
SKILLS:
- One of the best long-range marksmans at HQ. Can detect and hit targets from moving locations, e.g. from a helicopter. Yuta believes that Jisung’s abilities will exceed his own very soon.
- Although he is very good at target acquisition, he prefers to work in duo teams with Chenle or Yuta, with whom he can trade being the spotter and the shooter.
- Also Ten's disciple, in training to become a lethal close combat fighter.
- Because he's young, he often has Supervisory Special Agents on his teams.
Compatible teams:
- Renjun - Haechan - Jisung
- Yuta - Chenle - Mark - Jisung
- Johnny - Jaehyun - Jisung
APPEARANCE:
- Height: 178cm
- Blonde hair, brown eyes.
- Tall and lanky.
- Dresses like teens his age, but usually seen in a turtleneck and a bulletproof vest.
- There is a chicken keychain on his rifle bag.
PERSONALITY & RELATIONSHIPS:
- A prankster like Haechan and Renjun, but is more quiet about it and doesn't get scolded for it as often.
- Really looks up the special agents like Taeyong, Johnny, Ten, Yuta.
- With most of his peers, he's playful and likes to squabble (engage in word fights), but to Chenle, he's really nice. Has known Chenle since they were little.
- Often lingers in the lab testing Chenle's tech. Got hit on the head once by a part that was sent flying after a device exploded.
- During a reconnaissance mission, he and Chenle (paired as a duo team) were found by the criminals and Chenle would have been killed if Haechan hadn't made it to their hiding place in time. After this incident, Jisung decided to increase his hand-to-hand combat training and became one of Ten's students, so he could definitely protect the people who are important to him next time they are in danger.
SUNGCHAN
GENERAL:
- Asia Branch Field Agent
- Latest recruit from the academy, recommended by Jungwoo
- Has no specialized field yet; currently completing missions under Taeyong and Johnny’s supervision
SKILLS:
- Very good in close combat, has decent stamina but relies mainly on speed; a good marksman
- Stood out from his classmates during interrogation exercises because of his perceptiveness.
- He gets paired with Jungwoo or Johnny during interrogation, where he can learn how to extract information during conversation while also assisting in detecting lies and changes in mood. He works particularly well with Jungwoo as their questions are often complementary; where Jungwoo is bold and strikes the interviewee’s weakness, Sungchan follows up with inquiries about details; when Sungchan starts to lose the bigger picture, Jungwoo leads the interview back to its main point. Johnny often states that the reports he receives from this duo are almost flawless.
Compatible teams:
- Taeyong – Doyoung – Sungchan
- Jungwoo – Sungchan
APPEARANCE:
- Height: 184cm
- Brown hair and dark brown eyes
- When he is resting at HQ, he changes into semi-formal clothing, mostly jumpers over button-downs
PERSONALITY & RELATIONSHIPS:
- Curious and observant.
- Although he might not be as experienced as the others, Sungchan is a quick thinker and can contribute ideas to imminent damage control.
- Because Sungchan knows some of the young agents from academy, he gets used to the new environment very soon.
- He looks up to Taeyong a lot and is always very excited when Taeyong has time to guide him through assignments.
- He seems to be on a similar wavelength as Jungwoo, not only having great synergy in a professional setting but also hang out often off-duty.
- Sungchan also likes to spend time in the IT offices with Winwin and is interested in his cybersecurity work.
- Despite being fascinated with the inventions of the quartermasters, Sungchan does not go downstairs to the lab very often unless he has to gather his equipment for missions. On his first day, he unintentionally broke parts of Hendery and Chenle’s prototype and caused a small fire in the basement.
SHOTARO
GENERAL:
- Asia Branch Field Agent & Sniper Squad Member
- Handpicked by Yuta
- Has worked for other independent agencies before
SKILLS:
- Highly skilled marksman, prefers to assist in reconnaissance since he can be deployed as sniper or field agent. Yuta asked for him to be recruited because of his skills and to have more flexible agents in his squad.
- Extremely talented in martial arts, with very unconventional techniques that also piqued Ten and Taeyong’s interest.
- Like Jisung and Chenle, he is usually in teams with more experienced agents or supervisory special agents.
Compatible teams:
- Renjun – Doyoung – Yuta – Shotaro
- Yuta – Mark – Jeno – Shotaro
APPEARANCE:
- Height: 178cm
- Light hair, brown eyes
- When he is not on duty, he is often seen in baggy, comfortable clothing
PERSONALITY & RELATIONSHIPS:
- Very soft-spoken and careful, seems a bit shy at first; in a professional setting/in the field, he is confident and very efficient
- His first day started with Sungchan, both greeted by Jisung and Taeil, who took them on a tour in the agency.
- surprisingly, another agent who introduced Shotaro to everyone present on that day in the cafeteria was Doyoung. Because of Doyoung’s special position in the agency and his observations, he provides Shotaro with clues and advice how to approach certain agents.
- Shotaro likes to hang out with the younger agents, especially with Renjun who adapts to Shotaro’s personality and shows the newcomer a more caring side than he would with the others (esp. Haechan, Chenle, Jisung). He likes to join them in their free time activities but does not dare to partake in their mischievous plans yet.
- Shotaro looks up to Yuta as his mentor and squad leader and learns to handle difficult missions where stakes are high. Yuta thinks that there is not much technical stuff that he can teach Shotaro, but he is interested in guiding the young agent through the tough, on-spot decision-making, building his mental strength and how to deal with aftermaths of missions.
when are you releasing the artbook?
i want to redo it, so it still might take a little while. Please check out emmi's fic in the meantime!
what does the artbook include?
i hope to get it to 48 pages with illustrations. beside the artbook, there will be stickers and key chains and other merch!
can we write a fic based on your AU?
no, emmi reserves the rights to write fics for our agent AU.
i want to write my own agent AU, and there are some similarities. i don't want people to say that i took your ideas. i don't want to offend you with this?
please write your own agent AU! i'm okay with overlaps because we are all basing this off the same boys, using their personalities etc., and i'm sure there are ideas and interpretations that are the same. as long as you dont write the same headcanons for ships and take my designs, i'm fine with that!
what ships are in this au?
johnjae, dotae, kunten, lumark, renhyuck
can you elaborate on the dynamics of these ships?
- johnjae: they have been assigned partners back in north american branch and work very well together professionally. johnny has a tendency to be too considerate, to selflessly give and give and give, and jaehyun has to learn, with all the emotional baggage and guilt that has been tormenting him for so long, to give back.
- dotae: we wanted to focus on how they go from absolute mistrust to being able to rely on each other blindly. this starts out by respecting each others' skills, like taeyong's responsiblities and integrity, and doyoung's informant network and unconventional thinking. there is also obvious physical attraction, but their history makes it a weak basis for a relationship. doyoung slowly wins over taeyong by offering crucial help to his agents' success without ever compromising their lives (which is taeyong's top priority). meanwhile, he discovers taeyong's kindness that is hidden under his authority and the dedication he has for his agents, and it shifts taeyong under a completely different light.
- kunten: they are the first established couple and are very complementary. where ten is rash and impulsive, kun is patient and observant; ten will encourage kun when he has doubts about his leadership, and kun will stop ten from becoming impetuous. they match well because of their maturity.
- lumark: there is this magnetic pull towards each other, like mark will seek lucas out, hanging out in the labs till midnight, watching lucas tinkering away on his inventions. lucas has utmost respect for mark and how hard-working he is. Trying not to distract mark from his goal with their obvious feelings for each other, lucas waits patiently.
- renhyuck: hyuck tends to like the spotlight and renjun has no problem giving that to him and being his steady support. he is one of the few that can catch up with hyuck's wits and who can fight him as an equal. donghyuck has spontaneous and unique ideas, renjun compliments him by providing long-sightedness and detail.
